Eland

Multi-tenant practice management for engineering and construction firms. Projects and phases, time and expenses, billing for every common contract type, and double-entry accounting in one system, so approved time flows to invoices and the ledger with no re-keying.

Portfolio: budget burn against progress for every active project.

The problem

Engineering firms run projects, timesheets, billing, and accounting in separate tools and spreadsheets. Invoices go out late, phase budgets overrun before anyone notices, and leadership cannot see true profitability.

What we built

  1. 01Projects, phases, schedules, and a project hub with budget burn against progress
  2. 02Time and expense entry with approvals, timers, and time off
  3. 03Billing for hourly, fixed fee, percent complete, cost-plus, unit, and percentage-of-construction contracts, with retainers and retainage
  4. 04Double-entry accounting: receivables, payables, statements, and financial reports
  5. 05Invoice template designer and combined invoicing across projects

Engineering decisions

One ledger, no re-keying

Approved time flows to project budgets, invoices, and the general ledger without re-keying, and reports read from the same data as the books.

Tenant isolation in the database

Row-level security in PostgreSQL keeps each firm's data separate, enforced below the application code.

Billing rules proven by tests

Each contract type has explicit calculation specs and tests, because a wrong invoice costs more trust than a late one.
